Ring Ring! Is Google Voice planning to call on the Enterprise?

Comments Off

Michael Arrington of Techcrunch is hypothesizing today that Google may be planning to add a version of Google Voice to their Google Apps suite.  This would seem to be a natural progression, as Google has been extremely successful in introducing services to the broader (and in some respects, less forgiving) consumer market and subsequently repackaging it for the enterprise.

What is not known at this point is whether it would be a true VOIP service (e.g., Vonage, RingCentral) or merely a routing of calls to existing service lines.  The latter would not be of much value to most organizations, but for small companies it would be equivalent to a poor man’s PBX – routing calls to individual mobile phones and/or PCs.

At the very least, it’s another sign that 2010 will be the Year of Disruptive Technology.
